Go Green with IKEA & Urban Jungle Bloggers

Springtime is all about the awakening of the nature. And it is the right moment to bring more greens into your homes, onto your balconies, terraces, in your greenhouses and windowsills. Yes, we want you to go green all the way! For that ‘green mission’ we have teamed up with IKEA Germany and we want you all to be part of the green fun!

IKEA Germany has launched its brand new outdoor collection with a fantastic range of products for small urban indoor gardens, large balconies and spacious greenhouses and gardens. We both had our go and styled up our places to give you some inspiration how you could bring in more greens into your own home. But we do not want to teach you. We think you have way more you can show us – and we will not leave you without a reward.

IKEA Germany and the Urban Jungle Bloggers are happy to host an Instagram styling challenge. We want to invite you all to join in and share your picture(s) with any kind of IKEA product (really whatever you have at home, be it a shelf, a table, a vase, a plant pot etc.) and plant(s). Show us your green IKEA image and tag the photo on Instagram with the following hashtags: #IKEAgogreen #IKEAmachgrün #urbanjunglebloggers.

The Instagram styling challenge will run until April 5th 2015 and is open worldwide. At the end of the challenge we both will declare three overall winners who will each win one of this amazing IKEA gift packs full of goodies form their latest outdoor collection. It consists of two glass parts and regulates the moisture and temperature levels by itself.

Pikaplant: Pikaplant is a new Dutch brand offering two different Pikaplant Jars, no-maintenance indoor plants for your home. Currently they offer a Coffea plant and Sarracenia plant in sealed jars with no need for care whatsoever.

Waterworks: ‘Waterworks’ by Dutch House of Thol is a hydration system that makes it super easy to care for your plants. This set consists of a partly glazed terra-cotta cone and a glass bulb with a cork stopper. Because of the porous nature of terra-cotta, water will seep slowly through the cone into the soil. Your plant will be happy!

With Valentine’s Day coming up in a few weeks, it sounds like a good idea to focus on the true relationship with our green friends. Because when you think of it, the relationship with your plant barely differs from the relationship with loved ones. The more time and love you give them, the better they thrive and the more leafy love you get in return. But how? Caring for plants can be very rewarding, but something we just need a little extra help. And that’s where this book comes in! Me & My Plant by Dutch publisher Snor, gives us the secret to a blossoming relationship with our plant.

In six chapters, the Me & My Plant covers the six phases that a love relationship usually goes through: from falling in love to growing old together. After the first butterflies, we learn how to find the right spot and pot for our green friend and the effect that green spaces have on people. Of course, we don’t live for our plants, we live with our plants and we sometimes need some time for ourselves. In the third chapter we find some very useful holiday survival tips and some geeky tools from around the web to keep track of our plants.

Chapter 4 is a fun one: it’s called New Life, which means propagation, spoiling your plant and some groovy playlists for your plants! Did you know that some plants also absorb noise? Or that there are actual Plant Whisperers? The last chapter is the most poetic one: After being together for so many years, nothing can drive you apart or make you disheartened. Side by side, you battle on – because even though things don’t go as smoothly as before, the love still remains. And if it really is over then at least there’s always the book full of memories.

Overall, Me and My Plant is very complete guidebook with lots of hands-on tips to improve your life with plants. We love the quirky illustrations (by Maaike Kuiper) and the modern twist on subjects that we can find in all traditional botanical books, like watering, propagation and repotting. It’s the perfect book for any Urban Jungle Blogger, whether you want to find out which plant would best fit your lifestyle or want to learn more about what plants actually do for you.

Urban Jungle Bloggers video feature in Paris

Today we are very happy and honored to share some amazing Urban Jungle Bloggers news with you! We’ve shared a few snapshots over the time and news fragments on social media about an exciting project with ‘The Joy of Plants‘: a video feature about our Urban Jungle Bloggers project.

Last November we met up with a fun and creative video crew in Paris to speak about our green ideas and our growing green community, we invited the film crew to discover some of our favorite urban jungle places in Paris and spent a wonderful and sunny day surrounded with plants in the middle of the metropolis. Check out our video feature here:

Our starting point was the green sculpture by Japanese artist Sou Fujimoto in the Tuileries gardens next to the famous Louvre museum. We strolled down to one of our favorite vertical gardens in the city center, passed by the botanical garden, went for a coffee in the ‘Comptoir Général‘ and spoke to the owner of the cool store ‘Green Factory‘ in the 10th arrondissement.

We also discussed further projects over coffee in the hip ‘Craft Café‘ before we rounded up a sunny and beautiful day on a fantastic rooftop. What united all these places are its green touches and the inspiration it brings us for Urban Jungle Bloggers.

Our beautiful and beloved city of Paris was recently hit by dreadful terror attacks. But we too, the entire Urban Jungle Bloggers community, we believe in a better world where peace and freedom prevail. In this sense we are all Charlie. We are all humans. Peace to you all, dear friends!
